Girls Field Hockey took down Colonel Zadok Magruder High School 7-0 in a dominant Senior Night performance on Monday, Oct, 19.
The night kicked off with a ceremony celebrating all seven seniors on the varsity team. As each senior’s name was called, they walked past their teammates, while surrounded by their families. Each senior shared a special message of reflection of their time on the team. Following this, seniors kept tradition when they ran through a row of teammates across the field to break through a banner that read, “SENIORS.” This concluded the ceremony.
The team kept their spirits high from the ceremony. All of the seniors started, and Barons scored just six minutes into the game thanks to Junior Roxanna Stayeas. Senior Mila Mojto quickly netted a second goal within a minute and never looked back. The girls tacked on a third goal before the first quarter came to a close, with Senior Ali Hellerman scoring her third goal of the season.
The defense stayed strong throughout the game, keeping Magruder High School scoreless the entire game.
After the game, Senior Captain and star player Oona Buckley commented on the night, “We played really well, and the parents did a really good job with the ceremony.” She finished the game with one goal and two assists.
The win moved their overall record to 9-2 and pushed their win streak to seven games in a row!
Looking ahead, the girls conclude their season on the road against Montgomery Blair High School this Friday, Oct. 20 at 6:00 p.m. They look forward to being seeded on Oct. 24 and hope to continue their strong season deep into playoffs.
