The Barons picked up a big in-division win against Montgomery Blair on Friday, Oct. 13, with a 21-20 thriller.
The Barons entered the game ready for a tough fight against a strong Blair team, and out of the gate that’s what they faced. Following a 20-yard passing TD from Blair quarterback Senior Quinn Stofa, the Barons responded nearly two minutes later with Senior Carson Griffey’s rushing touchdown, putting the score at 7-6 in favor of B-CC. A second Stofa touchdown pass tilted the score 14-7 in favor of Blair going into the half. B-CC made some tough adjustments, though, and equalized the score when Junior Lucas Scribner punched the ball in on a 5-yard rushing touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Blair took a 20-14 lead off of a third Stofa touchdown pass but failed to get the two-point conversion which left the door open for Griffey to put the ball in the end zone for a one-yard rushing touchdown. Junior Grady Kugel nailed the extra point giving the Barons the one-point lead that gave them the winning edge.
This win put B-CC in second place in the Class 4A North division and ensured the Barons a home playoff game for the second time in three years.
Following the win, Senior Kiyan Jacobs said, “It feels great to go into a close game against a competitive team and come out with a win, which is something we haven’t gotten to experience in the last two years,”
B-CC will aim to knock off Whitman in a highly anticipated rivalry game next Thursday, Oct. 19, as Whitman has had its first four-win season since 2019. The theme is a blackout, as the Barons have an opportunity to secure a winning record with a victory. Come out and support!
