Despite a frustrating loss, Girls Volleyball moved to 6-2 for the season.
On Friday, Sept. 29, the girls team defeated Quince Orchard, 3-0, in a huge win for the team. Junior Carolina Parkhurst said, “A big part of all our wins is that the team is just one giant group of friends.” The special bond amongst the team was extremely apparent during their domination of QO.
Following this game, the Barons won yet another game in a matchup with Rockville on Oct. 2nd. Once again, the girls killed it with a 3-0 sweep of the Rams. This win brought the girls’ winning streak to a season-long six wins in a row. Following the game, Junior Leo Strauss said, “The key to the teams wins have been having a good mentality while on the court and picking each other up.”
In their most recent contest, the girls lost a heartbreaker, 3-2, to Magruder. Emotions ran high during this game, and all of the girls played their hearts out. Prior to the game, the team honored the contributions of their coach, Mr. Palafox, who recently passed away, in a speech. Senior Captain Scarlett Potter said, “Despite his loss, it is super apparent how much we care about each other, especially in the pain we are all experiencing right now.”
The girls are hosting a fundraiser to raise money in remembrance of Mr. Palafox for the for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Details are on their instagram @barons.volleyball. They have already surpassed their $10,000 goal for the year. Junior Audrey Kong said, “We are so so grateful for all the donations we’ve been receiving from anyone. Even just a dollar or two makes a huge difference.”
The girls’ next game will take place at Blake on Oct. 10, and the next home game will be on Oct. 12 vs. Gaithersburg at 6:30 p.m.
