A treasured member of our community, Mr. Kevin Palafox, passed away in the afternoon on Sunday, October 1 due to, “Complications related to a recent medical diagnosis,” according to a community letter sent out by Dr. Mooney. Mr. Palafox was a dear colleague, teacher, mentor, and volleyball coach to many at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.
Although new to the school last fall, Mr. Palafox’s impact was felt immensely and immediately. As an active staff member, a dedicated teacher, and a supportive coach, Mr. Palafox made an effort to ensure that everyone in the B-CC community with whom he interacted felt like they had a place, even as he paved his own way at the school.
The hearts and prayers of the staff at The Tattler go out to everyone who felt the positive impact of Mr. Palafox’s presence, including his family, colleagues, friends, athletes, and students.
The administration has provided these supportive resources to all of B-CC’s community members in response to Mr. Palafox’s passing. In his community message, Dr. Mooney announced these resources:
- Counseling department
- Talking About Grief as a Family
- Talking To Children About Death and Dying
- Spanish Translation of Grief Facts and Tips
The Baron’s Volleyball team has set up a fundraiser on its Instagram account, @barons.volleyball, in honor of their beloved coach, in order to fundraise for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
A more extensive tribute to Mr. Palafox will be in The Tattler’s next print edition.
Sincerely,
The Tattler Editorial Team and Staff Advisor
