B-CC boys soccer took two tough losses last week against Quince Orchard and Winston Churchill High School, despite having the home-field advantage for both games.
Last Saturday, Sept. 23rd, the Barons played QO in a rescheduled match from September 8th, suffering a 2-1 loss in double overtime. The first match was initially canceled due to thunderstorms, and unfortunately, the rescheduled match’s weather was not much better. The teams played through the remnants of Tropical Storm Ophelia. Following the game, Junior Sebastian Rodriguez, who scored the singular goal for the Barons, shared, “The weather definitely impacted the way both teams played. It made the game move at a much faster pace. Both teams were under the same conditions, and Quince Orchard was the better team that day.”
On Thursday, Sept. 28th, the Barons played Winston Churchill in a marquee conference matchup. Once again, the match went into double overtime, and once again the Barons were defeated. The final score was 1-0, despite the Barons having many more shots on goal. Five of the six matches B-CC has played this season have needed an overtime period. Senior Dean Hammerman said, “We need to focus on the games ahead of us, and keep giving 100%.” The Barons face two tough tests this week against crosstown rivals, with a home match on Wednesday, Oct. 4th, against Walter Johnson, and a short trip over to Walt Whitman next Monday, Oct. 9th.
