Three B-CC students have been named semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship. The finalists of this competition will be in contention for a $2,500 scholarship as well as additional, corporate-sponsored, and college/university-sponsored scholarships. The winners will be announced later in the school year.
The semifinalists consist of high school juniors and seniors from all around the country who obtained the top scores of the 2022 PSAT. B-CC seniors Jeffrey L. Olson, Wren Buehler, and Lucas Das were named semifinalists. Olsen said, “It’s nice to be able to represent the school with an academic achievement, especially since B-CC has made challenging classes very accessible.” When asked about his strategy and motivation leading up to the PSAT he said, “I wasn’t really thinking about the award, but all my prep for SAT helped towards both tests, allowing me to receive a high score and qualifying me to contend for the award.”
MCPS students make up 189 out of over 16,000 semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship. The 189 MCPS semifinalists come from 14 high schools: Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Montgomery Blair, James Hubert Blake, Winston Churchill, Clarksburg, Damascus, Northwest, Poolesville, Richard Montgomery, Rockville, Walter Johnson, Wheaton, Walt Whitman, and Thomas S. Wootton. The finalists will be competing for a 7140 National Merit Scholarship worth 28 million.
The National Merit Scholarship is one of the most competitive scholarships in the country, and we are very proud of all three Barons who were named semi-finalists!
