Wellness Wednesdays Replace Advisory Periods

“I thought topics in Wellness Wednesday are better than what we had in advisory last year”

A new period called Well-Being Wednesday is being implemented during the 2023-24 school year.

The new period is designed to be a lesson regarding students’ overall health and state of well-being. This additional period takes place after second period, every other Wednesday and replaces last year’s weekly Friday advisory period. On these Wednesdays, the lunch period will last 59 minutes and regular class periods will be shortened.

In the first iteration of Well-being Wednesday, teachers presented a few videos, led quick discussions, and gave helpful tips and expert suggestions. Junior Benjamin Purvis commented, “I thought topics in Wellness Wednesday are better than what we had in advisory last year.”

However, not all students share the same sentiment. “They should just give us a period to do homework and assignments instead,” says senior Laila Michael in regard to how this time could be better spent.

“This period is an improvement from last year,” said B-CC teacher, Ms. Cameron. “I liked the material Dr.Santos spoke about,” she continued.

The objective of these lessons are to encourage all students to learn about and practice strategies that will improve their well-being. B-CC also hopes to take this as a chance to build a stronger community while also engaging students with research about ways to live a more balanced life.
