The Men of the Highway Finish Strong
May 26, 2023
The boy’s lacrosse team lost a close game to Walter Johnson in the first round of the playoffs to end their season. The Barons finished seven and seven in the regular season, putting them fifth in the Montgomery County Southern Division. The Barons struggled during division games, finishing one and five against their divisional opponents.
In March, the Barons had a steady start to their season, beginning two and two before going on a cold streak, only winning one of their next five games. However, from April 21st to May 5th, The Barons won four of their five games, which shot them up in the rankings from three and six to seven and seven.
The Barons were 5-2 at the Guck, and 2-5 when playing away. Close losses were a major issue this season. In five instances, B-CC lost games by a goal differential of two or fewer.
Aaron Tiao and Jake Williams ended their high school careers well. In the regular season, Tiao led the county in goals, finishing with 74. Williams, the team’s face-off man, finished second in the county with a face-off win percentage of 74.2 percent. Williams also picked up a team-leading 116 ground balls. Juniors Danny Loughlin and Will Harcourt stood out this season, too. Loughlin was second on the team for goals with 25 and Harcourt started at goalie all season, saving 53.8 percent of shots.
B-CC had five players making the Montgomery County South all-division team. Aaron Tiao made the first team all-division, while Danny Laughlin, Johnny Bruun, Jake Williams, and Adam Robinson made the second team all-division.
“It was pretty disappointing; we did not live up to our potential,” said junior Julien Holbrook when asked about the season’s outcome. Another junior, Kris Lakhe, said, “Next season, we will come back stronger; we have a lot of returning starters,”
Next season the Barons will look to get back on track and emulate their 2022 season. While retaining a substantial part of this year’s team, the future’s looking bright for the Barons.
