Running and Jumping through the Competition
Over the past weekend, the Track and Field team made their way out to North Hagerstown High School for the 28th Annual Chuck Zonis Invitational.
The most impressive event of the day for the Barons came from Junior Seamus McCann, finishing in first place and breaking the school pole vault record with a 13-06 ft jump.
The event featured ten different public High Schools from around the state and proved to be a solid test for the Barons. The boys, who finished fifth, were also powered by a number of notable performances. In the 800m, Junior Paolo Mantasas finished third with a time of 2:04.10, a new personal record. In the 1600m, Senior James Bellew finished in second with a time of 4:41.63, another personal record for the Barons.
The girls also played well, finishing the day in fourth place for the team race. Fueling that finish were multiple Barons, but sophomores Ani Bailin and Sophie Harjes’s 1-2 finish in the 3200 meters most certainly was the race of the day. A top 2 finish is impressive as it is, but claiming a 1-2 finish is extremely difficult and truly shows the depth of this girls roster. Other notable performances came from Sophomore Fiona Narrod-Malcom who won the high jump with a 5-00.00 and Sophomore Jaylin Harried who won the triple jump with a 35-01.00 and a new personal record.
This weekend capped off an overall strong showing for the Barons who look forward to the Trojan Invitational this weekend.
